so about comments....

well, i think i just changed the settings so that anyone can post now. so if you feel so enclined...go for it! also, i am having trouble getting to the links of those who have commented thus far. i am trying to figure out why.

which means, i don't know who commented on my last post.

school is alright. i had five lectures today, and a small group meeting in the morning. does not make me motivated to study right now. as my roommate just said, it doesn' really help to study when you don't want to. sounds like a good enough excuse for me. i worked on a lot of stuff yesterday, so i feel like i'm doing alright.

other exciting news, i am going to boston this weekend! should be fun. wasn't really planning on it, but i happened to be walking behind a girl after class one day when she mentioned she had a boyfriend in boston. i said, no way, me too! and another girl said she did as well. so we decided to carpool. it's the "boyfriends in boston" club. how exciting.

alright, if i'm not going to study, i'm at least going to do something else useful. like talk to someone.

day three...out of 4,627

well, who would have thunk it but med school is hard.

at orientation they kept talking about "drinking from the fire hose." not an exageration. at all. i've already had 10 lectures for one of my classes. and reviewed half of them. and made some flashcards.

and....i took my first med school quiz today. i think i passed. which is good. it's for my casestudy class, which will probably end up being one of those ridiculously hard/very rewarding classes. it's the "immersion" style of learning: just get thrown right in. but the professor is a little, shall we say, rude? arrogant? self-possessed? intimidating? something like that...he kept talking to us like we knew nothing (which is true), but even less than we actually did. he said that he forgets what it's like to be a lay person.

so to celebrate my impressive studying skills this afternoon, and that i didn't succomb to my seductive bed, i am playing volleyball tonight.

it should be good.

holding my breath

tomorrow is the big day, first day of class. actually feel a little prepared, having worked out my brain a bit this weekend.

last night was rough. i did some work, watched a stupid movie (perfect thing for a post-study session), then started to organize my room. i talked to pete for a little while and got really overwhelmed by life. and then got scared about being overwhelmed when i hadn't even really started yet!

sigh. i wish i went to church today too. my study group met again this morning, then off to a brunch where they had all the clubs and orgs out. i signed up for a couple things, the christian one, the women's one, and internal medicine (they had a good spiel, i felt compelled).

then--and this is the exciting part--i cleaned my room! hallelujah, i have to say. i ended up moving my desk too, which got a little complicated with all the wires. definitely felt better after that. this evening we had dinner with a doctor, and i drove to some lake nearby to a cabin. it was nice, relaxing. met new people. i talked to the doctor's wife more than him. she was lovely.

but the best part of the day was definitely walking in my room and having it be waiting for me, all beautifully organized. ahhh, bliss. remind me that i like this feeling.

storage adventures

so i went to target today with my roommate, marie, to search for some storage containers to put under my bed. it took awhile, and they didn't have anything exactly right, you know what i mean? i was looking for big drawers, kinda. i found some of those tupperware-looking ones, which should be alright. so now i have a pile of empty storage containers on top of my crap.

and i can't organize right now because i have to go do some homework.

yeah, that's right. saturday night, before classes start, and i gotta do work. some of the other students and i are meeting in a group to work on a casestudy assignment. i still haven't done my part, mostly because we got hopelessly lost on the way back from target. wandered all around syracuse, found little italy, some sketchy areas, another hospital (st. joseph's) before finding our way back. i need to find a map to figure out where we went.

so today i got up, started working on the casestudy, went to a picnic, to target, and now doing some more work. i think they're going to keep us pretty busy here.

first post

this is for my dad. my mom told me to. she thinks we'll all keep in better touch if i write in a lovely blog about my life.

i was just dropped off at med school a couple days ago. it's still orientation, but we've already received a couple homework assignments. we even had a lecture today about being a doctor or something like that....i wasn't really paying attention. :)

i'm writing on my new computer at my desk which is covered in paperwork and two cold d&d coffee cups. i have stuff on my bed, under my bed, next to my bed which need to soon find a different place to go. sadly, i don't know where that place will be. my roommate has her stuff all beautifully organized already, just to spite me i'm sure.

i suppose it's almost dinner. i'll go there now. ciao!
