alright people, i know you are all dying to know how much i actually study. well, to give you a clue, lets do some math from this past weekend. on saturday i studied from noon until six, minus a lunch break, so about five hours, then from about 8 till eleven, so 8 hours total. on sunday i studied from 10 until 9 minus breaks for lunch and dinner, which were probably a little more than 2 hours, so lets say i studied for 9 hours or so. the total for the weekend was then 17 hours.
we had 15 lectures last week, and will have another 15 before the next test (oct. 6). i reviewed 7 lectures this weekend. so if 7 lectures took 17 hours, that's a little over two hours a lecture.
i'm up to lecture #8. how many hours will it take me to review the rest of the lectures? 22 more lectures, a little over two hours a lecture, do you think i could do it in 50 hours?
lets take into consideration too, that i'm in class until 4 or so every day. cuts down on the review time.
i should be done by christmas.
so why have i not killed myself yet? first of all, this weekend actually was a pretty good weekend for studying, though the raw numbers don't show it. part of it was because i found a new study partner (arlin, he's from san francisco). which at first made things take longer because we reviewed lectures i had already gone over on my own (doubling the study time necessary). but then when we got into a rhythm, reviewing went faster. and we weren't going over material i had already reviewed. and i learned it much better studying with him. all that to say, i think i'll actually be able to go over at least a couple lectures a night this week with him.
which will get me caught up to...the lectures we went over today. sigh. so even if i work really hard this week, i'll still be almost a week behind on reviewing lectures.
math sucks.

hey guess what
no really, guess first.
ok, i passed my exam. and i know all of you are rolling your eyes, going, "yeah, we're all surprised." well, just to let you know, on my practice tests, i basically got exactly a passing score. which is 70%. so depending on the difficulty of the exam, there was a possibility that i wouldn't do so well. i actually didn't get that much better than passing. i was below the mean.
that means below average. i'm never below average in anything (except age). though its true that below average in medical school is a different thing. i shouldn't get too bent out of shape. and i'm really not! actually, i feel alright about it. now i'm just trying to think of different ways to study this time around. which is hard, because it wasn't like i didn't study very much. i studied my butt off. but it apparently wasn't the most efficient way for me to learn all the information i needed to know.
another challenge. add it to the list. i think this makes #2,745. along with: remembering my id, practicing for kara's wedding, and not annoying marie (my lovely roommate).
on a sidenote, ventriloquist week on letterman started off with a great show last night. the ventriloquist guy was able to hum (for the dummy), make a clucking noise, and beat out a rhythm with his hand, at the same time. it was crazy.
on another sidenote, i have had chinese food four time since friday. and i still have leftovers. but as my wise mother said, "people in china eat chinese food every day. and a billion people can't be wrong."
well said.

ventriloquist week!!!!
so i had my test. it was hard. but i studied alot, so i feel ok. but it all starts over again. this week is going to be a little crazy as well. i have a presentation on thursday, and some hw for wednesday.
on a happier note, this week on letterman there is a different ventriloquist every night. i've been looking forward to this all last week. should be great...
i had visitors this weekend. peter, and my parents. that's a lot of visitors. i'm glad they came though. cuz they read this and i shouldn't say that i didn't want to see them....
it was hot out today. i wore a skirt. but it was cold in my classroom. i was very cold.
ok, now i have to read some articles on neuroserpins. don't worry, i don't know what they are either.

first test is coming...
friday is my first exam. very scary. i still have a ridiculous amount of studying to do.
but, i took last night off. i went to a comedian on campus, then went out with a big group later. it was fun. we got lost in the middle of syracuse, just driving in circles. i was following a girl, and she kept suddenly switching lanes, going through yellow lights, and other annoying-when-you're-following things. oh well. we were sort of looking for just a chill place to hang out, you know, cozy. well, the recommendation we got was for pj dorsey's. when we got there, it was absolutely packed and the music was so loud you couldn't hear the person next to you. so we left. the next place was a little quieter, and much less crowded. it was also very trendy.
so now it's saturday, and i have no plans but to study. except that now i'm going to go get lunch with a couple of the girls. btw, my roommate is an interesting character. she didn't go out last night to study, then slept in this morning till past noon. very odd.

i'm supposed to be in class...
don't worry, i didn't skip or anything. the prof has not shown up. class was supposed to start at 8:40, it is now 9:30. most of us are still here kinda hanging out, mostly because we have another lecture starting soon. it isn't really enough time to actually leave and come back.
in other news, it's tuesday. that means it's almost friday. well, sortof. but closer than if today was monday. that's called looking at life as a glass half-ful. i'm practicing my optimism skills.
you know, this whole thing really hangs on my ability to not get overwhelmed by how overwhelming this is. being able to split things up into smaller tasks, and not think about what's going to happen next week, is the way to go.
anyway, i had a very good weekend. saw lots of people, hung out, actually did a small amount of studying. just lovely.
